Hi, i posted a message yesterday, but in French, so i repeat my question in English in order to be more understood. What about the rain accumulation ?
Do they are in 3 hours when we keep 3 hours model data ? I think so, but why are they in mm/h ?
This is not a unity of accumulation but a unity of intensity !
Do we have to multiply by 3 what we look on the chart to have the rain accumulation in 3 hours ?
It should be more interesting if rain accumulation in 3 hours was in mm.
So Guys, what do you think about that ?
Regards.

Here we speak french or english, as we want, as we can, but we never forget that we discuss between humans.
Do not forget the magic words: hello, hi, thank you, etc.
Rude messages are rejected and remain unanswered.
It is often necessary to be patient because there are many other activities even more exciting in our life.

This is what I am asking in my post. All GFS charts you see over Internet are in inches or mm not mm/hr .purgues wrote: It should be more interesting if rain accumulation in 3 hours was in mm.

In zyGrib this is presented as Rainfall rate (mm/hr), but must be Total Precipitation (mm)
I second your petition.

Yes, but we are asking if is possible to present Total Accumulated Precipitation (mm) too.jza wrote:Hi,
zyGrib display rain rate, in the usual unit mm/h.

Re: unity of rain accumulation
Jacques et al, merci.
I have just posted a new analysis viewtopic.php?f=4&t=655 (NOAA Grib vs. Website) that seems to recognize this same problem.
It looks to me like the grib data for precipitation rate is ACTUALLEMENT in CENTImetres/h not MILLImetres/h.
This theory is also consistent with the fact that Snow accumulation is given in CENTImeters, not MILLImeters.
So if NOAA give snow accumulation, perhaps they also have a field somewhere for rain accumulation?
But for both we need to confirm whether MM or CM... The maths suggest that the rates are in CM/h, not MM/h.
Kind regards, Andy
