zyGrib

The site offering download of free and open high resolution grib files covering the Mediterranean is changing its domain name to http://openskiron.org/en. The old link wild-silk.org will redirect to the new domain.

These grib files can be read in zyGrib from version 6.2.4.

The regular Skiron Grib files listed on the site have a spatial resolution of 0.1 degree and a temporal resolution of 3 hours. The forecast is for 120 hours for atmospheric data and 96 hours for sea data (waves)

The files include the following variables:

• wind at 10m (speed & direction),
  temperature at 2m,
  specific humidity at 2m,
  total cloud cover in %,
  pressure at MSL,
  accumulated precipitation in mm for the last hour,
  significant height of wind waves and swell,
  direction of wind waves
  and mean wind wave period.

High frequency files are also available and include the same data structure with a temporal resolution of 1 hour. The forecast is for 48 hours (both atmosphere and sea data).
